Shadow analysis
Dark shadows are the enemy of a beautiful photograph and a youthful, fresh appearance. Photographers are aware of this and thus illuminate the face in such a way to achieve a flattering picture. I photograph the face in a lighting situation which makes the non-reflecting zones clear. This puts me in a position to analyse exactly the disturbing dark regions in the patient’s face. This, together with a recent photo if available, is used to draw up a treatment plan based on the patient’s wishes.
The success of this concept can be simulated even before facial treatment. A white eye pencil is used to “soften” the corresponding areas on one side of the face. Comparing both sides of the face allow my patients to get a realistic idea of the effect of treatment.
